RPH Receives Operational Excellence Award

2/15/2011

LaPlace, La. - River Parishes Hospital was recently presented with the Operational Excellence Award for "Most Improved in Heart Attack Care" by LifePoint Hospitals (the hospital's parent corporation) at the Senior Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. This award was given to RPH for improving the quality of care for our heart attack patients from admission to discharge by following the best practice guidelines and standards for Acute Myocardial Infarction management.

Evidence-based standards for AMI patients address timely initial administration of aspirin at arrival and at discharge, appropriate administration of thrombolytics, timeliness of EKG and blood tests, selection of correct beta blocker, ACE and ARB medications, smoking cessation counseling and inpatient mortality.

RPH's overall rate in 2008 was 96.09%, the rate increased to 98.88% in 2009 and in 2010 the rate was 100% for all the AMI data elements. Our quality improvement efforts included development of core measure resources, Formulary Guidelines pocket cards for nurses and physicians, admission order sets, checklists for concurrent chart review, webcast updates and staff education.

Patients can rest assured that the combined efforts of our physicians, nurses and support staff have been crucial to the success of our patients' health. Congratulations to everyone!
